Deputy Foreign Minister Davis Receives New WFP Country Director

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ethel Davis, on Friday, January 23, 2026 formally received the letter of accreditation from the newly appointed World Food Programme (WFP) Country Director to Liberia, Dr. Agbessi Komla.

The ceremony marked the beginning of a renewed partnership between the Government of Liberia and the WFP in advancing food security and sustainable development.

Ambassador Davis welcomed Dr. Komla and expressed Liberia’s deep appreciation for WFP’s longstanding support during emergencies and national transformation. She emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in food security, emergency response, and sustainable agriculture.

“We continue the cooperation with you in the area of food security, emergency response, and sustainable agriculture. I wish you a successful career as Country Director of the WFP,” Ambassador Davis stated.

Ambassador Davis highlighted Liberia’s transformation since the civil war, noting the country’s collective commitment to peace and progress.

“We as Liberians realized long ago that nobody benefits from war. We have made a commitment that we are never going back to war. The transformation you see is from that angle we want to move forward, put the past behind, and build a better future,” she remarked.

Dr. Komla, a Togolese national, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening collaboration with Liberia. He praised the government’s dedication to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly food security and nutrition, and pledged to leverage WFP’s technical expertise and resources to support Liberia’s development priorities.

“I have been very impressed by the government’s commitment to sustainable development goals, especially food security and nutrition. I look forward to working closely with the Government of Liberia to strengthen collaboration and deliver impactful programs, including school feeding initiatives that encourage education and provide vital nutrition to children,” Dr. Komla said.

Dr. Komla acknowledged the positive changes he observed since his arrival in Liberia, particularly in terms of security and stability. He expressed optimism about building on WFP’s strong foundation of cooperation with Liberia and advancing shared goals in food security, nutrition, and sustainable development.

The ceremony concluded with mutual expressions of commitment to a fruitful collaboration, with both parties reaffirming their dedication to improving the lives of Liberians through strengthened partnership with the World Food Programme.
