The Governments of Liberia and the Federal Republic of Brazil have signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement aimed at enhancing Liberia–Brazil Relations.
The signing ceremony took place on Friday in the Minister’s Conference room on the 4th Floor of the Ministry.
Acting Foreign Minister, Johnson N. Gwaikolo, signed on behalf of the Government of Liberia, while Her Excellency, Mrs. Maria A. Figueiredo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Brazil to Liberia signed on behalf of her government.
Performing the ceremony, Minister Gwaikolo expressed satisfaction for the Agreement which he said marked an important milestone in the consolidation of the warm relations existing between the two countries.
He recalled the historic ties of friendship subsisting between Liberia and Brazil which dates back to 1925 when both countries concluded a treaty for the Judicial Settlement of controversies which may arise in the future.
In response, Ambassador Figueiredo extolled Liberia for negotiating the signing of the Technical Cooperation Agreement which brings mutual benefits to the two Governments.
She congratulated President Johnson-Sirleaf for her leadership ability which continues to yield foreign support for Liberia’s recovery program.
The Brazilian Diplomat expressed her country’s eagerness to share its meager resources with Liberia during this period of national recovery.
The ceremony was attended by several officials of the Liberian Government including Amb. George Wallace, Advisor to the President on Foreign Affairs; Hon. Vivian Cherue, Deputy Health Minister for Administration; Cllr. Krubo Kollie, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Legal Affairs; Hon. Marcus Kofa, Assistant Foreign Minister for America Affairs, amongst others.
