The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency, Mr. Johnson N. Gwaikolo on Monday, June 1, 2009, received in audience two Ambassadors, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary from the Republics of Mali and Malta, respectively.
Two envoys include His Excellency, Mr. Barry Hassane of the Republic of Mali, and His Excellency, Mr. Pierluigi Nardis of Malta, who both presented copies of their credentials to Acting Foreign Minister Gwaikolo.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Gwaikolo recounted the cordial relations subsisting between Liberia and Mali on one hand, and Liberia and Malta on the other, which according to him, dated back as far as the 50s and 60s.
Minister Gwaikolo underscored Mali’s meaningful contributions and participation during the ECOWAS Peace Mission to Liberia, stressing that the Government and People of Liberia are grateful to the Government and People of the Sisterly country.
For his part, the Malian Ambassador pledged his country’s support and cooperation in strengthening the cordial ties subsisting between the two countries.
Earlier, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malta to Liberia, His Excellency, Mr. Pierluigi Nardis said his country stands ready to contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s needs, stressing that he knows the situation of Liberia and will lead effort to render assistance in several areas.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Barry Hassane of Mali on, Tuesday, June 2nd present his Letter of Credence to President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf at 10:00A.M. and was followed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malta, His Excellency, Mr. Pierluigi Nardis who presented the same day.
