The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clarified that at no time was Liberia’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Conmany B. Wesseh rejected at the UN as is being speculated in Monrovia.
The Ministry says the report is misleading and intended to confuse the public, noting that those behind such negative campaign are detractors of progress being achieved in the Foreign Service by the Liberian Government under the Administration of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.
The Foreign Ministry clarified that since the United Nations is an international organization the issue of rejection of a Permanent Representative as in the case of a member state does not arise.
According to the Ministry, the procedure involves the President of a sovereign nation writing the Secretary General of the United Nations, informing him of the appointment of an Ambassador and Permanent Representative, which is followed by the presentation of his credentials.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry is admonishing rumormongers and detractors to desist from misinforming the public as such practice has the propensity to undermine the gains already achieved in the Foreign Service.
