President Johnson-Sirleaf Congratulates New U.S. President

The President of the Republic of Liberia, Her Excellency Madam Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, has sent a Congratulatory Message to His Excellency Barack Obama on the occasion marking his Inauguration as 44th President of the United States of America.

In Her message to President Barack Obama, the Liberian leader conveyed heartiest congratulations and best wishes on behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Liberia and in her own name.

President Johnson-Sirleaf says, she is confident that the dream and power of democracy envisioned by the Founding Fathers of the United States and embraced by those all over the World who hold the sincere value of liberty, dignity and equal opportunities will strengthen the confidence reposed in President Obama’s ability to lead the People of the United States of America to a greater peace and stability.

According to a Foreign Ministry release signed by Mr. Josephus M. Gray, Assistant Foreign Minister for Public Affairs, President Johnson-Sirleaf also expressed hope that Liberia and the United States will remain mindful of the Genesis of Liberia as a Haven for freed people of color and the ties that bind the two countries.

The Liberian further indicated that the People of Liberia look forward to continuing and maintaining the mutual bonds of friendship and cooperation subsisting between Liberia and America for over one and half centuries.

President Johnson-Sirleaf then prayed that the Almighty God will endow President Barack Obama with wisdom as he leads the people of the United States to a greater prosperity.
