The Government of China announced as one of eight measures at the 2006 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China – Africa Cooperation the idea of building a conference center and Office Complex to the AU as a gift to Africa by the Chinese Government. The 18th Ordinary Session of the Assembly (Heads of State and Governments) of the African Union (AU) will convene in Addis Abba, Ethiopia from January 29 – 30, 2012. The Assembly is being preceded by the 20th Session of the Executive Council (Ministers) from January 26 – 27, 2012.
